Join ATD NYC (Association for Talent Development New York City Chapter) at the Science Industries and Business Library (SIBL) to explore the great value of Research and Libraries for Talent Development Professionals.
This chapter event is organized in a close collaboration with the Career Development Special Interest Group (SIG).
This event can be especially useful for small Learning and Development teams in nonprofit, healthcare, public and cultural institutions.

Kick-off with an interactive presentation to explore resources
We will deep dive into priority research topics for Learning, Talent and Organizational development professionals. Our speakers, Marzena Ermler and Ross Takahashi (see below) will explore available resources that can help you to stay up to date with current developments and trends in the profession, and to develop careers and small businesses. They will showcase how to research evidence-based interventions, and how to access critical data such as databases with industry surveys and market research.

Barbara Phillips, ATD Co-Chair of the Career Development SIG
Barbara is a multi-faceted talent management consultant, transition and executive coach, trainer and facilitator with 20 years of Human Resources and Organization Development experience in world class, global organizations. As a professional certified coach, Barbara focuses on career transitions (what’s next, job search strategy, branding, networking, interviewing, etc.) She also coaches recently outplaced executives in mid-life and/or on the cusp of retirement to help them plan for their “Third Act” (Encore Career and retirement transition). Her clients span Fortune 500 companies, non-profits and private clients.
Marzena Ermler, NYPL Career Services Manager at The New York Public Library
Marzena is a career coach and a learning and development professional who as NYPL’s Career Services Manager creates programs and services for job seekers. Marzena earned two masters degrees in Information Management and Foreign Language Teaching (she speaks, German, Polish and Russian fluently), which made her uniquely skilled in providing diverse learners with life-long learning and career development strategies. She holds coaching, leadership development, and training management certificates. Her special interests and strengths are: career and personal development, information literacy, and leadership development.
Shani Carter, ATD VP of Operations
Shani is a Professor of Business and has been at Wagner College since fall 2015. She has a Ph.D.in Personnel/Human Resource Studies, Labor Economics, and Research Methodology, an M.S.in Personnel/Human Resource Studies and Labor Economics, and a B.A. in Government. Shani teaches Strategic Human Resources, Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior, International Business, International Management, and Total Quality Management. She has published more than 30 articles and conference proceedings on training methods, factors of cognitive ability, affect, skill certification, measurement, student learning outcomes assessment, coefficient alpha, skills shortages, diversity, gender, and government labor force projections.
Robert Hellmann, ATD Co-Chair of the Career Development SIG
Robert Hellmann is President of Hellmann Career Consulting, where he provides career and executive coaching services as well as workshops and consulting on Presentations, Pitches and LinkedIn. He’s a certified Five O'Clock Club Senior Career and Executive Coach as well as an adjunct Instructor at New York University.
Rob's background includes 20 years of experience in Organizational Development and Marketing at employers including American Express, JP Morgan Chase, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He has developed career workshops for higher-education including Columbia University, Harvard Business School, New York University, Fordham University, and more.
Ross Takahashi NYPL/SIBL - Assistant Manager for Public Services at The New York Public Library
Ross Takahashi’s public service career at NYPL spans more than 30 years. He currently oversees SIBL’s Information Services and coordinates the Education Program, which includes classes on specialized business resources, small business, finance and investments, and industry and technology. He is available for in-depth research consultations as well as class instruction sessions. He received a BA in Psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and an MLS from Queens College.
